Nearly everyone has an opinion on the credit crunch. On a personal front many people have seen their mortgage payments reduced, unfortunately people have also seen the price of their homes tumble. |
| Meeting with our clients, we're hearing many differing opinions as to the effect. It is true, the recession is affecting different industries in different ways, the housing market and construction industries being a prime examples where the recession is having a particularly damaging effect. It is also true that there are industries which experience growth in a recession. |
| I think it is unwise, however, to take a view that the industry you are in determines your level of success through a recession. I was speaking with a client recently, who is involved in the kitchen manufacturing business who was optimistic about the future. As he rightly pointed out a recession means two quarters of economic contraction, not that the economy comes to a complete stand still. |
| Even in these difficult times, we still believe there is opportunity available, you may just have to work a little harder and smarter to find it. When times are good we often forget the importance of marketing, advertising, and communicating with clients and potential clients. We simply ride the crest of the wave. It's only when enquiries dry up we look to explore the opportunities that we've never even considered before. Unfortunately for some businesses this comes too late. |
| The internet often provides a new arena of opportunity for many clients, and often this opportunity can be tapped into without the need for investment. Emails are free to send, and whilst I'm not advocating spam, simply contacting existing customers, reminding them of your services can often result in more work. |
| Many people will be unaware that Google Shopping is a free tool where you can add your products. Ebay offers a cheap route to selling your products online. These are two of a growing number of ways in which you can cost effectively benefit from marketing on the internet. |
| We believe there's opportunity for businesses to not only survive in this difficult time, but grow. We'd be only too happy to tell you how we think you can make the most of the internet. |
